BLUEPRINTS
IMITATION OF LIFE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY NEWSLETTER
June, 2011

Next Meeting: June 28th, 2871 Brant St., San Diego

Welcome two new members:  Dena Hornberger and Stephanie Meyer

We thank Patty Smith for hosting the May meeting in her home.  It was an interesting and fun experience.

Next meeting: Tuesday, June 28th at Joann Dossett’s house -- 2871 Brant St., San Diego, 6:30-9p.m.
(619-299-4115). She will be showing the DVD “Needle Model a Pretty Face” by Gloria Winer.  This will be a chance to preview (and work along, if you wish) making the head for her “High Priestess” workshop in August.  For those not attending the workshop, it will be educational, too.  Gloria has a unique, 2-layer method of needle-sculpting that makes a very realistic face. The inner head is solid, the outer layer is stretch fabric and you stuff between the layers to get the contours, and then stitch them in place. This DVD is almost 5 hours long and we won’t see it all, but, please, come on time so we can see a lot of it.

July’s meeting will be on Saturday, July 23rd, at 2 p.m.  Shelley Hawkey will host us at her home – 1718 Outer Drive, El Cajon.  Shelley will lead us through the way she needle-sculpts a face.  Shelley has a new book out: Beautiful Bugs.

Shelley will have kits made up for us, so we can work along with her.  These will be $10 and include a fully sewn unstuffed doll head, sculpting thread and needles, and pens for coloring the faces.  (Bring light and dark watercolor pencils in blue, brown or green for coloring the eyes) She can seat 12 up close, as a workshop, but others may attend and watch.  Shelley will have her books, and patterns for sale there, too.

There are still a few openings in Gloria Winer’s workshop on August 5-7.  This is 3 days of
intensive learning.  See the flyer for details and photos.  She won’t be on the West Coast
again soon, and this is a not-to-be-missed opportunity.  Members pay only $150 plus $30
for the kit (or $15 for the pattern and instructions, bring your own materials and tools)
Contact Lois Boncer (lois@aardvarktozebra.com)  to register.
