October meeting minutes
Linda Adams took notes at the October meeting
and here is her report:
Debby opened our meeting of October 27, 2015, after
we were treated with wonderful goodies. Those
present included witches, a cat, a cowboy and a
fortuneteller.
Debby’s first business of order was brags to Patty
Smith for organizing our doll booths at the two quilt
shows. Plenty of pictures are available. The Booths
both looked professional and we had a lot of new
member interest, including one new paid member.
Our saddest news is that our own Robin has breast
cancer. Many prayers and halos to her for her
wonderful attitude and strength. We will all be
thinking of you, dear Robin. Let us know if you need
anything!
Discussion of changing our meeting to the daytime,
or alternating night and day meetings followed. This
would begin in 2016. Any comments or concerns
should go to our President and we will vote at next
meeting. Much clapping and whistles went on for
our own Patti Culea. Patti will begin her world
wide teaching tour soon and she will not be able to
post our newsletter. We all wish her safe travels and
come back soon!
It was motioned and seconded and voted that Debby
Tomcik will take over the newsletter and Programs.
Then motioned, seconded and voted that Patty Smith
will become our new President in 2016!
Patty’s first business included organization of a
“Day at Rosie’s”. Previously discussed to be on the
17th, it will be on Tuesday, November 10, at Rosie’s
Calico Cupboard. 7151 El Cajon Blvd. , San Diego,
Ca. 92115. From 9 to 4 pm. Moved, seconded, and
voted to pay for Rosie’s craft room. We will be
entertaining new members with talents from our own
members. We will be working on our Doug Dolls,
Angels for our raffle Christmas tree, and learning
new methods taught by our own wonderfully
talented members.
Cloth Dolls Tell their
Stories Exhibit in Ontario
Do put the dates of December 3 through
February 7 on your calendars. The Ontario
Museum of History & Art have asked Patti
Culea to curate a doll exhibit of California
doll makers.
The museum’s address is 225 S. Euclid
Avenue, Ontario, CA 91762
There will be a special opening on December
3rd, but the artists reception is January 23,
2016. The exhibit will also be open during
Road to California.

About the "Dapper Doug" doll. Someone was kind enough to give me a copy of the pattern, so here is the list of suggested supplies:

1/2 yard fabric for head, arms & legs
1/2 yard fabric for body and sleeves (use a print fabric so that he looks like he is wearing a shirt)
1/4 yard fabric for pants
pair of small doll socks
shoes (red high-top tennis shoes)
eyeglasses
small amount of pre-cut rug yarn for the hair in two colors
stuffing
two 4.5mm eyes
quilting thread
sculpting needles
regular sewing needles and supplies
stuffing forks mini & regular
turning tool
pens, pencils, crayons for doing face
(fine line brown, red, black  & pink micron pigma pens)
tacky glue
wood craft stick (to keep neck straight)

freezer paper for cutting out pattern pieces
Krylon sprayable fixative

All the above are 'suggestions', since this is your chance to be creative with a basic pattern. If you already have the pattern, and the time, you might want to make one or two bodies to bring and share.

Dolls in London
While at the Knitting & Stitching Show in
London I was excited to see Mavis Walker’s
Chess Set. She has worked on this for years.
There were several other doll exhibits at the
show – all cloth – but photography wasn’t
allowed. I was glad to see that Mavis was
open to people taking photo’s of her dolls.
The other photo I have to share is a stitched
piece that was in the entry as we walked into
the show at Alexander Palace. Fun at Fobbles
Many of you know I mainly seem to
teach workshops outside the U.S. The
shop in the photo below is in the Lake
District of England and I go there every
year. The shop and classroom are in a
400 year old converted barn, and on a
working farm. The owners raise sheep
dogs and have sheep to train the dogs.
This year we made my wee doll –
Peony. Several got their dolls finished,
but we do work hard for 3 days.

Editorial
Being the editor I can chatter
away about anything I want.
What I want to “chat” about is
how exciting I see our doll
club becoming. The fact that
we were asked back to the San
Diego Quilt Show was a huge
plus. Patty Smith worked
really hard to get us
committed, getting volunteers
to man the exhibit, and attending
the guild meetings.
It is also exciting seeing us getting
back to regular meetings, making
fun projects, and talking about
having a workshop with an outside
doll designer.
Look over the Save the Date list and
start thinking about what you want
to do to help grow our guild.
Dolls at the San Diego Quilt
Show!
What a thrill to see our dolls at the San Diego Quilt Show! I
hope all of you have a chance to go to the show. We need to let
the quilt show members know we are there to support them so
we can be invited back.
There are more photos on the next page of our dolls. Thank
you to all of you who put your dolls in the exhibit, and a huge
thank you to Patty Smith for coordinating the exhibit.

Mingei Meet-UP

May19, Tuesday, is a free day at the

It might also be fun to have lunch at the Japanese Friendship Garden Tea Room. They have all kinds of good food.

It’s Raggedy Ann’s100thBirthday!

June 28th we will be celebrating Raggedy Ann's birthday and
the 25th birthday of IOLCC. Think of the best birthday party you went to as a little girl and that is what we'll be having.
That means, start thinking about the party dress/outfit you'll want to wear and the type of food you would eat at, let's say, 8 to 10 years old. Sounds fun? You bet it will be. We'll have more details in the June newsletter but I wanted to get your
imagination going.

Date - June 28th - 3pm until?
Place: Debby Tomcik's.

Events of Interest: May 14th and 16th2!

Imitation of Life Construction Company News: Floral Follies
Just about 80% of our doll club attended Piecemaker's Country Store February 19th
through 22nd. There were 45 people attending and Piecemaker's went all out for us.
The store was decorated beautifully, the lunches were incredible, and we all made
new friends.

See Patti Culea's You Tube "New Project 4" for some good photos!

Next meeting will be March 24th at 6:30 to 8:30 (Tuesday) at Joanne's house for Show & Tell Time. Bring the dolls you made at Floral Follies and also bring a snack to share.
Carpooling is recommended due to limited parking at Joanne's house.

Raggedy Ann Tea:

We’ll be discussing the upcoming Raggedy Ann Tea. Put your thinking caps on and be ready with some ideas to share. Our teas are always so much fun. The next newsletter will be a bit more newsy. Your new newsletter person is packing for the last doll making cruise and ran out of time.

November and December 2014

There was no regular doll club meeting in November. In December we had a small holiday party at a member's house.
